Humans of New York

“Second grade is starting on Wednesday. They assign homework in second grade, so I’m a little worried about that. Also the teachers don’t help you as much. They might see that you are spelling a word wrong, and they’ll let you spell it wrong without even telling you. They’re not being mean. They just want to push you. Not actually push you. But push you to spell better. And I’m pretty sure we’re going to be learning about Native Americans. Because I walked by a second grade class last year and everyone was on the floor making Native American stuff out of clay.”

This Human of New York is my favorite. This speaks volumes to me, because I so much can relate to this little boy, in my past. I was so thrilled to go to the 2nd Grade, and this is where I met my favorite teacher. I’ve always found excitement in spelling, and I love that he is so enthralled in the fact that 2nd grade is such a huge deal. I honestly do think it is a big step, an introduction to new excitement, and a realization that growing up comes with hardships. Meaning, that individuals and superiors will not always help you out. You’re expected to fix issues on your own.

“Netflix raises monthly price $1 to $9.99” is an article on CNN Money on October 8th. The article covers the reasons for the higher price of the network.
Netflix, the popular streaming TV service, is increasing the cost of their standard monthly plan from $8.99 to $9.99. Investors were excited about this, though some customers were not. Before learning of the new alterations of the price, Netflix stock was down. Post-announcement the stock raised up more than 6%.
I feel excited about this. Netflix may be raising their prices by $1 a month, but they will be expanding, therefore I think it is worth it. I enjoy Netflix and it’s a great source of relaxation, and it’s a chance to catch up on my favorite shows, and also start to watch new and different shows.
The dollar raise will affect new subscribers in the US, Latin America, and Canada, immediately. This will not affect a majority of existing subscribers. Netflix is a worldwide enjoyed network. I believe that it’s an all around source of greatness to everyone. Though Netflix can be consuming, majority enjoy it.

On February 1st, a breach in the system proved the school’s system had been hacked. Installation of a new security system caused the three-week shutdown. A request to rent computers for the class to finish the assignment, has been made. The school board will decide Friday, the 6th.

Because of this incident, classes were affected. The journalism class has a 48-page final deadline on February 27th.

” It’s great that the school board is moving so quickly on this request.” said Rodney Stephens, yearbook adviser, “I know it will be somewhat costly for the district..”

MacWorld agreed to rent the computers out for $500 for the three weeks.

“We would risk not getting the book back before school ended. That would essentially kill an important tradition to the school.” Stephens said.

“Yearbook Day” consists of a senior signing party, that takes place the day that the yearbooks arrive on campus. All seniors get released from class at noon to attend the party in the gym.

“Yearbook Day is one of the highlights of Senior year.” said senior, Reggie White.

All the seniors enjoy this tradition, and the principal expects to carry it on.

“Yearbook Day for Seniors is one of the most beloved traditions at the school,” Stephens
said.

“Baby born without a complete skull defies the odds,” is an article published on CNN news, dated October 2, 2015.
The article about this baby is on topic of health, and the journey of his life with his diagnosis that has no known cure at this time.
Jaxon Buell, born without a big part of his skull and brain, was not expected by doctors to live more than a few weeks. Defying the odds, Jacob just recently celebrated his first birthday. Buell’s parents learned of the concerns for their baby when they had a 17-week ultrasound. The couple went forward with the pregnancy rather than choosing abortion. After months and months of tests to see what may be wrong, and a few misdiagnoses, the family learned that Jax has Micro Hydranencephaly, which has no cure.
This event doesn’t affect me physically, but rather mentally. I think this would trigger caring emotions for anyone that may indulge in this story. I feel a sense of sadness, but also joy got the life of this little human. With this generation’s technological abilities, I believe that perhaps a cure should be further looked into. This event, though brings sadness , also brings hope. This baby, smaller than both you and me fought against all odds and continues to, and leads a life, not much different than other kids his age.
CNN says, “The parents know Jaxon will need a miracle in the long term, but are taking each day as it comes and relying on faith to help them through.” This brings a sense of hope for anyone in the world that may have this happen to their child in the future. Possibilities of world impact rely on treatments being looked for, also not yet found. Many people refrain from realizing that this is a possibility for anyone , and often take for granted the blessings that they do have in life, frequently including being the cause of a human life; having their own child. I comprehend that this should be more important to individuals everywhere, and a cure should be further looked for.

On Monday, September 28, headlines on Time News are reading, “Early stage breast cancer may not require chemo.”
In topicality, this is categorized as a health matter, and shows the results of a long anticipated study, in which verifies that tumors might respond to drug therapy by itself.
Researchers have recently reported that there is a sufficient amount of backed up evidence that shows hormone-based anti-tumor drugs may be the answer to a longer life and a chance at a cancer free life for some women.
The fundamental acknowledgment to finding these women lies in a test based on genes, named OncotypeDX, that scans 21 genes in a tumor that makes a portfolio of the tumors features and it strengths and weaknesses. Studies, recently up to date, have tested OncotypeDX’s estimated capabilities using samples of tumors. There has been trials designed to test a random women to participate in therapy without chemotherapy, in order to collect findings of the risk of recurrence after five years.
The trial, the Trail Assigning Individualized Options for Treatment, or (TailorX) comprised 10,253 women diagnosed with breast cancer made it noticeable as to whether the tumors responded to the hormone therapy. About 16% of the woman tested in the study responded and did remarkably well. With a 99% survival rate they had less than a 2% chance of reoccurrence at all.
This affects me because people in my family have been diagnosed with breast cancer . The emotional toll on the patient and their family runs high. Luckily she survived and remains free of cancer’s overpowering reins. Cancer can ruin lives and it overpowers the body, which is scary to anyone who has it or is surrounded by it.
This affects the world, because new treatments are being found. Many people rely on new treatment so that their loved ones or themselves can be cured of harsh diseases, such as cancer. I think that this is a good thing in the world because not only women, but men can get this type of cancer and with new treatments available the survival rate just crawls higher and higher.

Headlines on KLTV on September 21, read, “Reports say apple moving forward on building a car.” The topic of this article is the excelling in the making of an exciting new project , the California Tech Giant inventing its own electric automobile.

Though much information has been denied by Apple, many sources have been checked upon and many aspects are summing together. Apple Company, in the current months, has employed quite a few engineers with consequential backgrounds in battery design and automotive. “Apple has the financial resources ad ambition to design and build a high end vehicle,” Analysts say. Munster, an analyst says that he believes there is a 50-60% chance probability of Apple Car becoming a reality. Many tech companies have been looking into finding new technology for electric car programs, even self-driving automobiles.

This possible event affects me, after deeply thinking on the big picture. Apple, among with other high tech companies, is working to find new technology for automotive facts and newfound programs, yet subjects are not what they specialize in. This could arise fear in individuals, and cause further problems to the well being and life state of todays generations.Due to the mere example and statement that this is not what these companies study and further add on to their products, this could instill dear, and this could end badly. Perhaps these companies may miss a simple step in procedure, while making this and from there, driving these cars could become dangerous.

To add on to my personal thoughts and how this could affect me, I’d like to add on the impact this could have on the world. cars are manufactured all over the world, among with Apple’s popular cellular device and iPad products. Once again asking, What if this new technology has glitches, has problems? When the cars are manufactured, it will be too late, and the road will become even more dangerous and deadly than it is now.

Current Events Assignment- 9/15/2015

The topic of current events essay this week is that of a plane going to the wrong destination. Headlines on CNN read, “American Airlines accidentally sends uncertified plane to Hawaii” on September 13th.
The airlines confirms to CNN that the aircraft services seems to have mistakenly sent an airplane, that was not certified, to fly a far trip across the Pacific ocean to Hawaii, from Los Angeles, California. A crew member who resided on the ground during the time of the event, noticed this mix up and quickly contacted the crew on board. The FAA, or Federal Aviation Administration, who is primarily responsible and in charge of advancement, safety, and regulation of civil aviation, was notified immediately. “Somebody screwed up big time, somewhere,” an American Airlines pilot, who is not authorized to speak on the record, told CNN. It is required that the FAA be alerted of any problems that may arise. American airlines, as formerly stated, quickly contacted the FAA to clearly review their airline procedures.
In taking a position on the recent matter, I feel panic stricken about the thought of the repercussions of what this could lead into. This event affects me by cause of the reflection of what the consequence could result in of the more in-depth issue of what has happened. Recently, we had the 14th anniversary of 9/11. The September 11 attacks were a series of four coordinated terrorist attacks. The terrorist attack was acted on by airplanes. With this, comes fear. If an aircraft service cannot do their simple duties how can Americans feel secure?
I think this impacts the world, because there is flight from the West Coast to the East Coast, from the north pole to the South Pole, across the equator and prime meridian, there is airflight all over the earth. As earlier referred I brought up the fact of the September 11 attacks. Reason being, the contrast between terrorists on an airplane and the misrouted airplane. I think that this should be taking care of, and people working as a higher authority, should be more responsible and aware of their specified guidelines that they did not meet in the recent wronging.

Current Events Assignment 09-04-15

The topic of the current event article this week as reported on CNN on Monday, August 31, 2015 is “Brain-eating Amoeba that killed a 14-year-old star athlete.” Brain eating amoeba, originally named Naegleria Fowleri Amoeba , is a rare bacteria that lives mostly in the southern states. ” This amoeba is a single celled organism that can cause a brain infection called primary amoebic Meningoencephalitis by entertaining through the nose and traveling to the brain,” reports the Center for Disease Control.

Young male athlete, Michael John Riley Junior, was about to embark on his first year of high school. On August 13, 2015 the teen who resides in Houston accompanied his teammates as they swim in a local pond in the Sam Houston State Park. His time spent in the pond is where Michael encountered and contracted this amoeba. Within a short matter of days following the outing what started out as a headache quickly escalated into complete loss of brain activity and function with him eventually passing away Sunday, August 30, 2015.

Upon contact with this amoeba there is a reported 99.7% fatality rate. Out of the past cases within a span of 53 years, 133 people have fallen sick due to exposure to the amoeba and 130 of them died. Most of these cases took place in Texas, Florida, Arkansas, Arizona in California which can be startling and detrimental to one’s anxiety levels if they reside in one of the southern states. I think The general public can take precautionary measures that will keep them safe considering the rarity of cases, however, being informed and aware of the fact surrounding this type of anoeba can assist in contact prevention. This problem affects not only the USA but the world because of the lives lost as well as the indigenous nature of this bacterial micro organism throughout the worlds freshwater sources.

Therefore, if someone does find themselves in a freshwater pond, lake or stream they should refrain from stirring up the sediment on the water bottoms as this is where the bacteria is said to live. Exercising this safeguard practice can quite possibly be the difference between a typical outdoor water outing and a visit to the morgue.
